Transport in London


1.8 million people travel into the center of London by train every day. London Underground is a big train station opened in 1863 and usually called the Tube. In London also there are a double-decker buses and the famous buses called Bendy buses . Also a lot of people walk in London. The car isn't a good type of transport in London because it does traffic.

The ships

Ships and sea are very important in Britain.
Britain once had the biggest navy in the world. Even today many ships are used for exporting and importing goods and packets. Some people also travel by ship to go holiday business.
The Queen Mary 2 is a very big cruise ship.
It sails from Southampton to USA (New York)
You can visit a museum of maritime history in Liverpool. Outside the museum, there are ships in the parks. Inside you can find out about life on sailing ships. Young men had to climb the raging to put the sails. This was a dangerous job!


Horror stories


People like to be scare. They love reading horror stories and watching horror movies. Some of the most famous horror stories were written by British writers. The first was published by Mary Sheley in 1818-Frankenstein. Then, Jesus Franco made "Dracula contra Frankenstein" in 1970. Count Dracula was a vampire created in 1897 by the Irish writer Bram Stoker.

The supermarkets

Supermarket are an important part of daily life in the Britain. The five big supermarkets sell 80% of all groceries - That's food and drink. Tesco in the biggest. It's got nearly 2000 shops in Britain and it is the third biggest supermarket in the world. In the larger supermarkets you can buy just about anything. A lot of people now use online shopping.


The law


The most famous police station in Britain is New Scotland Yard in London.
For most people the police are he face of the law. They can arrest people in the street but they also give information.
In the custody room the suspected criminal are charged with a crime.
Next they take finger points to cheek the person's identity. They also take mouth swabs for analysis of DNA. Suspects cabe kept in the cells at the police station for several hours. The polices station in Law is ham has got stables for police horses.

Scotland

Scotland is on of the four main regions of Britain.
It occupies about one thirt of the total land area in Britain. Most people visit the countryside. Scotland has got some unusual traditions.
Scottish men sometimes wear a tartan rather than a trousers.
There is a traditional Scottish sport called highland Games.
Scotland is famous for its whisky.
Whisky is a strong spirit made from barley yeast and water


Soap operas in Britain


The soap operas are very popular in Britain. East Enders (London) , Coronation Street (Manchester), and Emmerdale (Yorkshire) are very popular soap operas but the two most popular and oldest are East Enders and Coronation Street. Most soap operas are on TV five times a week, from Monday to Friday.
Many fans read soap operas magazines. You can buy these magazines every week.
